Event Details

On December 7th, the department of the Art of Africa, Oceania, and the Americas at Christie’s is honoured to present a selection of works from important private collections. This sale will celebrate the creative genius of historic artists from the African, North American, and Pacific continents. The selected works are all iconic and previously unseen examples. Highlights from this auction include two exceptional masterpieces of African art. True icons, the Soninké and M’bembé statues are witnesses of the past, of history and of the artists that placed these pieces at the core of their everyday life. They are symbols of the virtuosity of these artists, of the continuity of tradition and of the universality of art through the ages. Christie’s is delighted to pay homage to the exceptional creativity of these artists and to the wealth of styles that influenced 20th-century art so greatly. Renowned collectors, such as René Rasmussen, Claude Vérité, Hubert Goldet, and Marsha and Saul Stanoff, will also be featured. A beautiful selection of art from Gabon and the Democratic Republic of the Congo pays tribute to the taste, eye, and passionate research behind the collection of Laure-Marie and Daniel Biebuyck.
